Sneak Peek At The Auto Lighting On The 2016 Audi A4

Audi has finally released details about what will be available in the 2016 Audi A4 series, and there is a lot to love about the new sedan. There will be three different versions available, and while full specs aren’t available yet, there is enough information out there to get automotive lighting fans excited. Here’s what the buzz is about the automotive lighting on the 2016 Audi A4:

Full Matrix LED Is Available. Audi will offer full matrix LED headlights as an optional feature for the 2016 Audi A4. Introduced in 2013, this LED lighting technology enhances visibility when traveling on dark roads. A camera inside of the headlights detects outside conditions, when the vehicle is traveling at speeds of 30 kilometers per hour on rural roads, and at speeds of 60 kilometers per hour in the city. When more illumination is required, the LED headlights shine brighter until an oncoming vehicle approaches. Within milliseconds, the lights dim to avoid blinding the other driver, and then reengage if they are needed once the vehicle passes.

Xenon Plus Lighting Is the Standard. All three versions of the 2016 Audi A4 will feature Audi’s Xenon Plus headlights. Sophisticated electronics control the gas discharge headlights, which provide double the illumination of standard halogens. The lights produce an optimal arc to light up more of the road, and consume four-fifths of the power of halogen. Range control is included on the headlights to minimize the risk of blinding oncoming traffic.

All Models Have LED DLRs. LED daytime running lights are used as accents on all three versions of the 2016 Audi A4 sedan. The design is quite different from the 2015 model, which had a sort of G-shaped design. In the 2016 design, there is a vertical LED along the outer edge that connects to a diagonal LED light along the top. This highlights the outer corner of the headlight. At the bottom right of the headlight, the shape is repeated, forming a sideways “L” shape.

The Audi A4 Has Dynamic Turn Signal Lighting. The 2016 Audi A4 will feature Audi’s Dynamic Turn Signals, a type of sequential turn signal technology. Instead of flashing on and off, the turn signals use LEDs to flash in a pattern, making it look as if the light is traveling along the top of the headlamps and tail lamps.

Audi hasn’t provided the exact date that the three Audi A4 sedan models will be available at dealerships in the United States. Prices will begin at $37,000, $49,200, and $50,200 for the three vehicles in the line-up. It’s not yet clear what the addition of the Matrix LED lighting will cost for those who wish to upgrade.
